The press service of Vodokanal, the general director of which is Vitaly Pirogov, warned that sewers may not be able to immediately take such a large flow of water, because of which temporary puddles will appear on the streets.
It is reported that the drainage system is serviceable and ready to receive rain runoff. When in St. Petersburg falls "normative" amount of precipitation, sewage takes the entire volume of water. However, if the rain is too heavy, it exceeds the capacity of the water receiving devices and the network itself. Then temporary puddles are formed on the roads, which later the sewerage still takes.
In order to respond quickly to possible situations, Vodokanal brigades are on duty in St. Petersburg. Special control will be installed at social facilities, stops, metro stations and major intersections.
