On the day of veneration of the Kaluga Icon of the Mother of God on October 25, a car procession with the revered shrine took place around the regional center.
At the request of believers and with the blessing of Metropolitan Clement, the icon was carried along the Northern and Southern bypasses of Kaluga. The metropolitan led a prayer procession in which priests, monastics and laity participated. At four stops around the city, prayers were made “for the health and salvation of the inhabitants of the blessed Kaluga land”, as well as for peace and protection from enemies.
The icon is associated with legends about the deliverance of Kaluga from the plague in 1771 and from the threat of French invasion in 1812. According to church tradition, after prayers before the shrine, the French troops did not enter the city and retreated along the Smolensk road. In memory of historical events, separate days of veneration of the icon are established.
The tradition of cross processions was interrupted in the XX century, but was later resumed with the blessing of Metropolitan Clement.
In the spring of 2020, the shrine was already being smuggled around the city during the pandemic, praying to stop the spread of the disease. Some believers had only heard about the Kaluga icon before, but for the first time they had the opportunity to pray before its image.
In the prayers of the Mother of God, they say: “Rejoice, O Lady, Your mercy to us and Your intercession.”
As told earlier “MK in Kaluga”, the Kalugans were told what the colors of the temples can tell.
