Volgograd residents told about church holidays on October 29

Orthodox calendar

On this day, believers remember the Roman centurion (centrion) Longinus, who stood guard at the Cross of the Lord on Calvary. Struck by the signs at the death of the Savior on the cross, Longinus believed in Christ, confessed his faith before all, and was martyred in Cappadocia. According to legend, drops of the Blood of Christ healed the centurion from an eye disease, so Saint Longinus is prayed for the healing of diseases of vision.

The names of October 29 are celebrated: Alexei, George, Eugene, Ivan, Leonty, Terenty, Sofia.

Secular and professional events

Day of non-departmental protection of troops of the national guard of the Russian Federation is a professional holiday of service, founded in 1952 for reliable protection of objects and peace of mind of citizens. The essence of the decision was to create a centralized system: the internal affairs bodies in different regions began to form a non-departmental external guard. Its key feature is that employees are not included in the staff of those organizations that protect. That is why the service was called “non-departmental”.

World Psoriasis Day is an international medical and educational date.

The birthday of the Komsomol (VLKSM) is a memorable date in the history of the national youth movement.
