Volgograd region was among the leaders in the growth of domestic tourism
Every fifth booking of a hotel in Russia falls on a holiday near the house.

More and more Russians are choosing to vacation in their own or neighboring region. According to Deputy Prime Minister Dmitry Chernyshenko, every fifth booking of the hotel falls on this format of travel. This is facilitated by new points of attraction created within the framework of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality” – they change the habits of families and open small towns.
According to Rosstat for January-July 2026, in Moscow and the region, almost 44% of reservations were made by local residents, in St. Petersburg and the Sverdlovsk region - about 25%. At the same time, “home” tourism is growing fastest in the Volgograd, Rostov, Kaliningrad and Samara regions, as well as in Dagestan.
The leaders in the total number of tourist trips during this period were Moscow (7.6 million), Moscow region (4 million), St. Petersburg (4 million), Tatarstan (1.9 million) and Sverdlovsk region (1.3 million). Domestic tourism is becoming more family-friendly: the share of bookings from parents with children and groups of three or more adults has increased.
Minister of Economic Development Maxim Reshetnikov stressed that these trends are taken into account in the national project “Tourism and Hospitality” – the emphasis in support is shifting towards such formats of recreation. According to him, the alignment of the geography of tourism is a strategic result that needs to be consolidated so that travel becomes interesting and accessible for everyone.
