Volgograd natural parks joined the action “Bird marathon”
Natural parks of Volgograd region actively participate in international Days of bird observations

Ecological and educational action “Bird marathon” is held in the region. According to the Committee of Natural Resources, Forestry and Ecology of the Volgograd region, autumn bird counts will end on October 12.
In the Shcherbakovskiy Nature Park, volunteers from the Volga and Pallasovsky districts, as well as schoolchildren from the Nizhnedobrinsky and Vodbuerka schools, were involved in accounting work. Even before leaving for the park in educational institutions, the children were explained how to properly conduct observations and fill out reports. As a result, 43 participants received 24 questionnaires, according to which 970 birds were recorded. Among the notable finds are chomga on the bay of the Lower Dobrinka Refuge and a dwarf eagle (a species included in the Red Book of the Volgograd region) in the Waterbuerary Heights tract.
In the park "Donskoy" for students of Ilovlinsk school No 1 organized a cognitive ornithological tour. Under the guidance of specialists, children learned to recognize birds not only visually, but also by their voices: they managed to record the singing of mountaintails and hemp. In addition, students observed the behavior of large tits, gray crows and forty. All collected information is uploaded to the BioData platform, the all-Russian database of the Union for the Protection of Birds of Russia. Each participant of the action will be given a personal certificate.
In addition to direct accounting, thematic competitions and educational events are held in the parks. According to the committee, such actions help to conduct regular monitoring of populations, track migrations and promptly respond to changes in the state of fauna. At the same time, the level of environmental literacy of residents is growing, practical skills of observing nature are being formed – this directly supports the goals of the federal project “Preservation of Biological Diversity and Development of Ecological Tourism” within the framework of the national project “Environmental Well-being”.
