Volgograd doctors saved the child from meningococcal infection
Meningococcal infection is a disease that can develop lightning fast and leave a heavy trail. But Volgograd doctors managed to prove that with timely help, the consequences can be avoided. 12-year-old boy taken to the regional children's clinical hospital in critical condition, fully recovered

He was taken to the hospital in a disaster medicine car. The child was immediately hospitalized in the intensive care unit. Doctors observed impaired consciousness, marked retardation, disorientation in time and space, minimal reaction to examination.
The key and most dangerous symptom was a common hemorrhagic rash - a sign of meningococcemia, a form of infection in which bacteria enter the bloodstream and cause systemic inflammation. Against this background, infectious and toxic shock can rapidly develop: blood circulation is disturbed, internal organs suffer, cerebral edema occurs and the risk of multiple organ failure.
Treatment began immediately. On the fifth day, the boy was transferred from intensive care to the specialized children's infectious diseases department, where he continued antibacterial and restorative therapy.
Even after successful treatment, meningococcal infection often leaves neurological consequences: headaches, memory and attention disorders, convulsive syndrome, movement disorders, delayed recovery of cognitive functions.
In this case, nothing like this happened: consciousness, motor activity and cognitive abilities of the boy returned to normal. The child was discharged home without consequences, and he returned to his normal life.
