Doctors of the Voronezh Regional Cancer Center conducted two complex operations on a 55-year-old man with neoplasms in both kidneys. Experts managed to remove the tumors without affecting the organs themselves. This was reported on November 6 in the press service of the medical institution.
The patient entered the oncology center in the summer of 2026. During the examination, doctors found tumors in two kidneys at once. In such cases, there is a risk of losing one or both organs, which can lead to the need for permanent dialysis.
The first surgical intervention took place in June. Doctors removed a neoplasm of about 6 centimeters from the left kidney. The operation was not easy: due to the location and size of the tumor, the risk of removal of the entire organ remained. However, surgeons managed to limit the resection of the neoplasm.
The second operation was performed in late September, when the patient recovered from the first intervention. This time, experts worked with the right kidney, where they found a tumor about 2.5 centimeters in size. Technically, the operation was easier than the previous one.
As a result, doctors managed to completely remove both tumors and save the man both kidneys. Distant metastases in the patient were not detected, the prognosis experts estimate as favorable.
Thanks to organ-preserving operations, the man managed to avoid kidney removal and lifelong dependence on the dialysis procedure.
