In the Brest region, four residents of Brest became victims of cyber fraud in a short period of time. Details of criminal stories on the air of the program “Causes and Effect” on “Radio-Minsk” told the official representative of the Investigative Committee Alexander Sukhodolsky.
"Cause and effect"
According to the investigation, the victims received calls in messengers. At first, unknown persons presented themselves as employees of state institutions and under various pretexts came into trust. Someone was informed about the need for an urgent replacement of the electric meter, someone about receiving a parcel by post, some about the need to extend the contract for the provision of communication services.
At the second stage, false law enforcement officers entered the conversation. They convinced victims that they communicated with fraudsters, and offered to help save savings by declaring, obtaining mirror loans from banks and transferring money to allegedly secure accounts.
Brest residents fulfilled all the instructions of the scammers, and as a result, the fraudsters seized citizens’ money for a total of 61 thousand BYN. In one case, the man was even told to take a package of money to the Minsk district and hide in the forest.
By the way, the stolen money could be much more, but the 26-year-old victim, who intended to transfer 23 thousand BYN to scammers, was stopped in time by his mother, who noticed the unusual behavior of his son.
On all facts of criminal actions, investigators opened criminal cases under Article 209 of the Criminal Code (fraud).
