Argentina's prosecutor's office has requested prison sentences of 4 to 12 years for medical professionals accused of the death of legendary footballer Diego Maradona. This is reported by the TV channel TN.
During the court debate, state prosecutors voiced demands for each of the defendants. The maximum sentence - 12 years in prison - has been requested for neurosurgeon Leopoldo Luce. Swiss Medical Coordinator Nancy Forlini is being asked by prosecutors to impose 10 years in prison and psychiatrist Agustin Kosachov 8 years.
The prosecution is also seeking five years in prison for psychologist Carlos Diaz. Nurses Ricardo Almiron and Mariano Perroni face 4 years in prison with a ban on professional activity.
Medical workers are accused of manslaughter and criminal negligence. The investigation believes that the death of the athlete could have been avoided with proper care.
Diego Maradona died on November 25, 2020. The cause of death was acute pulmonary edema against the background of chronic heart failure. Two weeks before his death, he underwent an emergency operation, after which he was quickly discharged.
The case resumed in April after a year-long break.
