This summer, an 18-year-old local resident was admitted to Vologda Regional Hospital No. 3. The young man was riding a quad bike and got into an accident. A tree branch pierced through his chest. Two centimeters to my heart.

The patient was in an extremely serious condition: blood and air filled the pleural cavity, compressed a mild, hemorrhagic shock, 7, 8 and 9 ribs were broken, through wound to the right lung. The young man underwent an emergency thoracotomy.

In the operating room, surgeons removed the branch, sewed the lung, sanitized the pleural cavity, removed the accumulated blood, installed drainage. In intensive care, the patient underwent intensive infusion, antibacterial, pain relief and hemostatic therapy.

Gradually, the young man began to recover. Treatment continued in the surgical department. Positive dynamics appeared only by the end of the second week, when the lung cracked. The patient was discharged after 20 days, when the stitches were removed and the drainage was removed.
