October 9 marks the 30th anniversary of the formation of units for drug control and combating human trafficking. Over several decades, the approach to the work of the service has changed greatly. Now drug shops hide behind screens and cover the traces of crime in the endless streams of digital data. However, despite their efforts to remain anonymous, police are finding ways to identify the names and addresses of the distributors. Among those who solve crimes in the field of drug trafficking, senior operative of the Moscow police Department of Minsk, police captain Maxim Shevtsov.

Since childhood, he took the example of a military grandfather, for whom the concepts of honor and duty are not just words. When he grew up, the young man entered the cadet school, and then the Academy of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. The commissioner recalls:
- During his studies, he looked at various units, but eventually chose drug control. The main task here is to identify the criminals at the stage of design or preparation of the scheme. Sometimes it turns into a real puzzle. Working according to the prepared scenario will not work. You need to look for different approaches, analyze the psychological state of the suspect and be able to distinguish when a person is trying to hide something.
The opportunity to show themselves in business after graduating from the academy and arriving at the first workplace appeared almost immediately, says Maxim:
- In the field of view of operatives was a man who, as it turned out, was engaged in drug trafficking. During the search he found prohibited substances. He immediately began to justify, they say, accidentally bought on the Internet. This did not help to avoid liability: the court sentenced him to three years of imprisonment.
It would seem that the criminal is punished, the case is closed. But the young officer did not leave the professional anxiety. He continually analyzed the detainee's behavior, his confused explanations about the "accidental acquisition" and decided to double-check all the facts once again:
- Both teachers at the academy and colleagues taught them to trust their inner instincts, to double-check information several times if in doubt. I shared my thoughts with my partner, and together, we started rechecking all the evidence and documents. Special attention was paid to the list of contacts of the detainee. Intuition suggested there would be a drug dealer's number. As a result, they came on the trail of a 40-year-old friend of the detainee - a supplier of psychotropics.
The detention took place with the forceful support of the soldiers of the riot police Department of the Mingorispolkom. After a search in the apartment of the defendant found a room for growing narcotic plants. There were pots of cannabis plants, carbon filters for air purification, powerful lamps that accelerated growth, accurate scales for packaging and an impressive supply of ready-to-eat goods. A criminal case was opened against the detainee. The court sentenced him to four years in prison under enhanced regime and a fine of more than four thousand rubles.
Now the police captain has hundreds of solved crimes, but he remembers this episode more often than others:
- I am glad that I listened to myself and helped get rid of the distributor of banned substances. I am convinced that the best operative is the one who is not satisfied with superficial answers, but digs to the very essence. There are no small things in my work. You have to pay attention to every detail.
