Anyone who owns a car will have two new rules from October 1
Two new rules for car owners from October 1: who now exactly needs a technical inspection, and who can relax.
The autumn of 2026 brought fresh amendments to the rules for technical inspection of vehicles. Experts advise to understand these nuances in advance to avoid problems when re-registering a car or communicating with inspectors.
Here are two major changes that have already taken effect:
Now the inspection points are obliged to accept electronic extracts from the PTS and STS. Have you lost the original paper? No problem: the diagnosis will be carried out without problems using digital data from the database. At the same time, the authorities have tightened control over the operators themselves: any diagnostic cards issued with violations or “backdating” will be canceled in an expedited manner.
Inspectors are instructed to check the data of the car with maximum accuracy. At gunpoint, now not only the VIN number, but also the state registration plate, exact model, make and category of the vehicle. From now on, even a minor typo or the slightest discrepancy in the symbols will become a legal reason for refusing to issue a diagnostic card. The time of “formal” checkmarks in the documents is officially over.
If you use a car exclusively for personal, non-commercial trips, urgently look for a free window at the service station is not necessary. For private transport, mandatory inspection is still abolished.
The updated regulations are primarily addressed to operators of maintenance points and those categories of citizens who need diagnosis by law (for example, taxi drivers, truck owners or when re-registrating a car). So clean up the documents, but without unnecessary fuss!
