“The whole winter will be abnormal”: weather forecasters warned what to prepare for the Russians
Abnormal frosts and icy rains: weather forecasters voiced a harsh forecast for winter for Russia.
The upcoming winter season promises to be a real test for the country’s climate system. Meteorologists associate the expected anomalies with the global El Niño phenomenon, which radically changes the circulation of air masses, affecting weather far beyond the Pacific Ocean.
Scientific Director of the Hydrometeorological Center Roman Vilfand warns: the Far East will feel the most changes. Primorye and the Khabarovsk Territory are waiting for periods of extreme frosts, accompanied by powerful snowfalls and blizzards, which will seriously complicate the work of road transport.
The European part of Russia will not avoid surprises. In Moscow, St. Petersburg, Tver and Tula regions in December, a sharp cold snap is possible. The temperature can drop to minus 30 degrees, which is about 7 degrees below the climatic norm. However, weather forecasters specify: such frosts will not be constant, but will come in waves, replacing thaws.
The south of the country is facing another danger - icy rains. Even short-term icing of roads, sidewalks, power lines and trees can create serious problems for motorists, pedestrians and utilities.
