"Are you learning at all or are you summoning spirits?" The Frenchman saw how Russian students pass exams, and was shocked: he understood how the Russians have such a science
Frenchman Jules came to Russia for an exchange and once found himself at the center of an unusual student tradition.
On Tatiana day he saw a group of young people at the monument to the border guard with a dog. Students took turns approaching the bronze dog and rubbed his nose, which has long shiny, writes “Glass Tale”. Jules didn't understand what was going on:
"Is this some kind of ritual?"
He was told that the students believed that rubbing the dog’s nose would make the session more successful. The Frenchman was even more surprised to learn of another tradition. Before the exam, students open the window, wave a note and shout: “Free, come!”
There are other signs: put a coin under your heel, sleep on a textbook or take a certain talisman with you.
At first, Jules decided that Russian students were just trying to find an easy way to get good grades. But later I realized that behind these amusing rituals there is not a refusal to study, but a long-standing student tradition.
Russia has indeed given the world many scientists and researchers. Among them are Mendeleev, Korolev and other graduates of the national educational system. Jules was particularly surprised by the combination of a serious attitude to science and an almost childish belief in luck.
In France, if a student talks to a statue before an exam, they will find it strange. It’s just part of your student life.”.
In the end, the Frenchman admitted that he began to look at the tradition quite differently. Behind them he saw ordinary young people, who before an important challenge are worried, hope for success and look for any opportunity to feel more confident.
At the same time, education does not disappear. As they say, knowledge, and a little luck before the exam is unnecessary.
