A 36-year-old previously unconvicted resident of the capital, who was accused of causing grievous bodily harm through negligence, was sentenced, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency was told in the Oktyabrsky district prosecutor's office.

In the evening, the defendant called a taxi. When the car arrived, he, talking on his mobile phone, placed himself in the back seat. The driver asked why he didn’t say hello. The remark angered the passenger.
Before reaching the destination, the taxi driver stopped the car and demanded that the customer leave the cabin. A verbal spat began between the men.
Suddenly, the driver got out of the car and approached the passenger, after which, taking a combat stand, began to swing in his direction. He grabbed the taxi driver by the hands, made a bandage, which caused the man to fall to the ground. Then the defendant left.
A few weeks later, he was called by police officers, from whom he learned that he had caused the victim serious bodily harm. A criminal case was opened against a resident of the capital.
In court, he fully admitted his guilt, repented of what he had done, and also noted that he wanted to resolve the conflict with the victim, apologized to him. He, in turn, demanded compensation of 30 thousand BYN, but the accused did not have such an amount.
- The accused is single, works as an installer in a private company, has not previously been brought to criminal responsibility, commented Ksenia Popova, assistant prosecutor of the Oktyabrsky district. The court found him guilty of causing grievous bodily harm through negligence and, on the basis of Article 155 of the Criminal Code, imposed a sentence of one year of correctional labor with the retention of 20% of earnings at the main place of work, but at least one basic value monthly. In addition, in favor of the victim, the accused must pay material compensation for moral damage in the amount of 3 thousand BYN.
The sentence has not come into force, can be appealed and challenged in accordance with the procedure established by law.
