The coming winter will give Russians an unpleasant surprise, and it is not in the usual severe frosts. Climate scientists are sounding the alarm: the main characteristic of the season will be extreme instability. Persistent cold will come late, but each new wave will break records in intensity.

The greatest danger is not the negative values themselves, but the frantic speed of their change. Already in January, the thermometer can make temperature culbites of 20-25 degrees in one day. Morning plus temperature with rain in the evening will be replaced by hard frost. The result is predictable and dangerous: prolonged ice, which will become the main nightmare for residents of the western regions of the country.

The situation is aggravated by the imbalance of precipitation. While some areas are at risk of celebrating the New Year without snow at all, others will be under the impact of powerful cyclones that can rash the monthly norm in just a couple of weeks. Such an imbalance will be a major test for utilities and emergency services across the country.

Experts have already made clear recommendations. Utilities are ordered to strengthen control over ice on roofs and sidewalks. Motorists are advised not to pull with the replacement of rubber: the asphalt will change its condition from wet to ice rink several times a day.

This “winter swing” carries a special risk for weather-dependent people and patients with heart disease. Sharp jumps in temperature and atmospheric pressure create a huge load on the vessels. Doctors strongly advise to regularly monitor blood pressure and not ignore the alarming symptoms.
