Will winter be the worst in 200 years? Forecasters revealed what to prepare for
Long stable frosts are not expected. The main danger is sudden temperature changes, ice and sudden snowfalls. Why should drivers, pedestrians and weather-dependent people prepare?

The upcoming cold season in Russia may destroy the usual stereotypes about the classic harsh winter. According to Roshydromet, instead of prolonged sub-zero temperatures, we are waiting for constant weather “swings”. Short-term thaws will be sharply replaced by waves of cold, and then again by heat.
The main threat lies in this cycle. Temperature transitions through the zero mark cause enormous damage to the roadway and utilities. Fallen during plus weather snow in a matter of hours turns into a solid ice crust. In the central part of the country, ice will become the main seasonal challenge, which will inevitably increase the risk of accidents and household injuries.
Rainfall will also not fall evenly. Meteorologists predict powerful but short-term snowfalls that will alternate with periods of mild weather. Climatic conditions will vary greatly between regions: while some areas will suffer from freezing rains, others will face real snow drifts. This will create an extreme burden on utilities, which will have to deal with both ice and snowdrifts at the same time.
Experts give clear recommendations for this season:
1. Drivers: Do not pull with the replacement tires. The first ice is always taken by surprise after warm days, when vigilance is dulled.
2. Pedestrians: Choose shoes with relief, anti-slip soles. During the day it can be slush, and by evening the sidewalks will turn into a skating rink.
3. Meteo-dependent: surges in pressure and temperature are a serious stress for the cardiovascular system. Control your health and don’t ignore worrying symptoms.
Calling this season “the scariest in 200 years” is premature, but its contrasting and unpredictable nature will require all of us to be extremely adaptable and cautious.
