Google’s Artificial Intelligence (AI) division DeepMind has created an institute to study the safe development of general AI (AGI). This is stated in the message of the company.

The new structure is called the DeepMind Institute. The main objective of the platform will be to stimulate interdisciplinary research involving experts from Google, the scientific community, the arts and government institutions.

The researchers will focus on the safe creation of AGI, the regulation of AI agent communities, the assessment of bio- and cyber risks, and the adaptation of public institutions and legislation to the era of universal AI.

The company noted that modern AI is approaching the level of AGI - a system capable of fully reproducing the cognitive functions of the human brain. DeepMind expects that general AI will become the main tool for scientific breakthroughs in medicine, the search for clean energy sources and economic development. However, the company stressed that the responsibility for the safe implementation of the technology lies with the whole society.
