The main fiber-optic communication lines (FOLS) in the Far East twice failed on September 19, the press service of Rostelecom told Kommersant. The head of the company Mikhail Oseevsky called the incident an organized sabotage to disrupt the elections.
At about 15:00 local time (08:00 GMT) there was a rupture of the Kholmsk-Tomari FOLS in the Sakhalin region due to sawing of the support. After about two hours, experts found that the cable between the settlements of Selikhino and Yagodny in the Khabarovsk Territory was cut in several places.
Due to the disruption of the FOCS, the quality of Internet access services in the Magadan, Sakhalin regions, the Kamchatka Territory, partially in the Khabarovsk Territory and the Chukotka Autonomous Okrug decreased for a short time. The connection was restored an hour later thanks to backup channels.
“We are faced with another unprecedented attempt to prevent the holding of elections, which we regard as organized sabotage. Like all other attempts, this one was unsuccessful, Oseevsky said. The Ministry of Communications and Digital Development also notes that the voting continues normally.
