Microsoft Offers 60,000 Employees to Leave the Company

Microsoft has offered about 60,000 employees to resign voluntarily. This is more than a quarter of the total staff of the company, according to Business Insider, citing an internal letter from Microsoft Director of Human Resources Amy Coleman and a representative of the Corporation.

The voluntary care program extends to employees of certain units in the US, Canada, the UK and India. Employees up to the 70th corporate level, including some senior managers, will be able to take advantage of the offer. The program will not affect sales departments, part of engineering teams and corporate units.

"The voluntary redundancy proposal reflects an important part of how we evolve our approach to change: creating more flexibility and, if possible, more ways for employees to shape their next chapter in life," Coleman wrote.

In early October, U.S. authorities suspended Microsoft’s participation in a green card program for foreign employees with H-1B visas.
