September 22 in the national calendar celebrates the day of Akim and Anna (in church tradition - the day of the righteous Joachim and Anna, the parents of the Virgin). In ancient times, the holiday was also called the Day of Birthday and Podnesenievo Day: it was believed that the saints patronize mothers and childless women, and the very name “Podneseniev” is associated with the custom of giving treats to loved ones and neighbors.
According to folk customs, on this day it was customary to set the table, call guests and give round cakes - as a symbol of prosperity and prosperity. Special attention was paid to young mothers and midwives: they were congratulated and thanked for their help. Women who dreamed of children turned to the saints with prayers for family happiness.
This day is connected and a lot of signs. Morning thick fog was considered a sign that the warm weather will last until the end of September, and the abundance of webs on plants was interpreted as a harbinger of mild and long autumn. Rain after lunch, on the contrary, was perceived as a signal of imminent cooling, and a clear day promised a warm autumn with the late arrival of frosts.
In the popular view, the “golden autumn” began with Akim and Anna, which, according to legend, lasted until the Intercession (October 14). During this period, they tried to complete the main field work, make blanks and prepare for the cold.
