Located in Afghanistan, in the Hindu Kush mountains at an altitude of more than 3,800 meters, it was the most dangerous section of the road from Termez to Kabul and a key supply route for the Soviet 40th Army. For the pass were fierce battles throughout the war - Salang became a road of life and death, and for many Soviet soldiers - a tunnel into immortality.
