On Reading Day, the Novgorod Museum-Reserve shared photos of ancient books
Today is the All-Russian Day of Reading. This holiday is dedicated to literature and books, the press service of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve reported. The Museum of Writing, which is located in the Likhudov building of the Novgorod Kremlin, contains many exhibits that tell about ancient Russian books: how they were published, how they were decorated, how the fate of Novgorod libraries developed. Here you can see the Novgorod Psalter of the XI century - one of the oldest known books of Ancient Russia; the Gospel of Andreychina of 1575 - an example of the artistic design of a handwritten book; one of the first Russian printed books of the XVI century - Anonymous Gospel and more than two hundred authentic objects - books, coins, seals, stone crosses, fragments of ancient graffiti. In a separate hall, the pride of the Novgorod land is presented - birch bark letters.
