The only mistake made by Say Agency in organizing concerts of rapper Kanye West, was the decision to rely on “the conceptual relationship that is accepted in the industry”, said the Agency’s CEO Anna Subcheva. According to her, when organizing events at Gazprom-Arena, “everyone goes into the announcement without having a lease agreement signed from both sides.”.
Ms. Subcheva in an interview with RBC said that the agency received a letter from the arena, according to which the parties planned to conclude a lease agreement until August 28, and from August 14 “to go into the announcement and sale of tickets.” Say Agency signed a lease agreement and sent Gazprom-Arena on time, but received no response from it.
“We have not defended ourselves legally. And that's our problem. We thought: we trust, we have a letter of guarantee. Now, turning back, we would first sign this agreement, and then do everything else, said the CEO of Say Agency.
She added that "hope persisted for a very long time," but "at some point, someone slowed things down.".
Kanye West’s concerts in Russia were scheduled for October 10 and 11. However, Gazprom Arena said it did not sign the lease agreement. On September 30, Say Agency announced the cancellation of the performances. As Kommersant found out, in St. Petersburg, law enforcement agencies began a pre-investigation check for possible fraud by the organizer of the canceled concerts. Court bailiffs seized some of the agency's funds.
