“Trinity” Rublev returned to the iconostasis of the Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra

The icon “Trinity” by Andrei Rublev was returned to the iconostasis of the Trinity Cathedral of the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. Before that, the icon was in restoration workshops. According to two sources of RBC in the lavra and a source familiar with the movements of the icon, the Trinity was returned on October 5.

Sources of RBC noted that the Trinity was returned to the iconostasis after repairing the climatic showcase in which it was stored. The icon was removed from the iconostasis in mid-September. Director of the Tretyakov Gallery Olga Galaktionova reported that the Trinity was withdrawn because of the “correction” of the state of the capsule.

“Trinity” since the summer of 2024 is in gratuitous use at the Trinity-Sergius Lavra. On September 12, social networks reported that due to the breakdown of the showcase and high humidity, the condition of the icon deteriorated sharply. The Trinity was removed from the climate showcase and moved to the workshops of the laurels to check its condition. In the iconostasis, it was temporarily replaced with a copy. Olga Galaktionova stated that the restoration of the icon was not discussed.
