Belarusian theaters gathered more than 2.2 million spectators in 2025

Professional theaters of Belarus gathered more than 2.2 million spectators in 2025. Such data are cited by Belstat in a statistical review for the Day of Cultural Workers, which this year is celebrated on October 11, the correspondent of the Minsk-Novosti agency reports.

In 2025, 42.5 thousand people were employed in the field of creative activity and entertainment, as well as library, archival, museum and other work in the field of culture.

The average age of the employee was 46.7 years. Women in the industry are significantly more than men: 70.1 against 29.9 percent.

Among cultural workers, 43.5% have higher education, 29.8% have secondary special education, 16.4% have vocational education, and 10.3% have secondary and basic education.

Historical heritage and museums of Belarus

At the end of 2025, 5,694 objects were included in the State List of Historical and Cultural Values of Belarus. Most of them are archaeological monuments – 2 221. Next are monuments of architecture (1,844), history (1,215), art (69) and urban planning (14). Four more objects are protected areas.

The list includes 188 intangible and 139 material historical and cultural values. Four objects of cultural heritage of Belarus are included in the UNESCO World Heritage List.

In 2025, there were 150 museums in the country. During the year, they organized 178.2 thousand excursions and 5.4 thousand temporary exhibitions. The total number of museum items of the main fund reached 3.7 million units. Last year, 9.9 million people visited Belarusian museums.

The most popular in terms of the number of visits were the Khatyn memorial complex, the Brest Hero Fortress memorial complex and the Belarusian State Museum of the History of the Great Patriotic War.

Cultural sites of the country

There were 28 professional theaters in Belarus in 2025. During the year, they held 12.9 thousand events - 21.4% more than in 2024. They were visited by 2,221.5 thousand people, an increase of 20.3%.

Also, 24 concert organizations of Belarus held 6.7 thousand concerts, which were attended by 1,149.2 thousand people, which is 6.5% more than a year earlier.

There were 80 cinemas in the country, their sessions were visited by 4,184.3 thousand people. Two circuses also worked – they showed 456 performances, which gathered 490.7 thousand spectators.

In addition, there were five zoological parks in Belarus, visited by 786.5 thousand people.

Libraries and clubs

In 2025, there were 2.1 thousand public libraries, and the library fund amounted to 47.2 million copies. During the year, 37.1 million books were given to readers, 34.3% to children. The number of users reached 2.6 million, and the share of children among them – 41.1%.

On the territory of the country there were 2,200 clubs, and with them 16,600 club formations, where 202,800 people were engaged, of which 49% were children.
