Before the premiere in Russia, Tulyaks showed the film “The Birth of an Empire”, shot in the region

On this Wednesday, October 28, in Tula, a pre-premier screening of the historical drama “The Birth of an Empire” by Nikita Mikhalkov’s studio TRITE took place. The picture is released in wide release on October 29, and the Tula region has become the main platform for its shooting, shared details with “MK in Tula” in the press service of the regional government.

To present the film to the audience came director Andrey Kravchuk, executive producer Alexei Dubinin, production designer Sergei Agin and other members of the film crew. The show was also attended by the First Deputy Governor - the Chairman of the Government of the Tula region Natalia Arkhipova.

She noted that the film was the result of a great collaboration with the region. The shootings highlighted the historical significance and natural beauty of the Tula region, as well as provided work for local specialists. Arkhipova added that the film was highly appreciated by Russian President Vladimir Putin: he drew attention to the fact that the film allows the viewer to plunge into the historical era and feel like a participant in events.

The plot covers the period from 1698 to 1709 - from the return of Peter I from the Grand Embassy to the Battle of Poltava. At the center of the story is the formation of the tsar as a military commander, his confrontation with the boyars and the war with Sweden for access to the sea. The main roles were played by Alexander Gorbatov, Julia Peresild, Milos Bikovich, Alexei Guskov and other actors.

Filming began in 2023. Most of the work took place in the Alexinsky and Zaoksky districts. In the vicinity of the village of Nikulino, scenery was built that recreated the atmosphere of the early XVIII century: burned villages, redoubts, tents, residential barracks, dugouts, chapels and the field headquarters of the tsar. The scenes of the Battle of Poltava, one of the key battles of the Northern War, were filmed here. The mass and battle scenes were attended by stuntmen, as well as students and graduates of specialized educational institutions of the region.

On behalf of Governor Dmitry Milyaev, the film crew was assisted by the regional Film Commission, specialized executive authorities, municipal administrations and other departments. Director Andrey Kravchuk and executive producer Alexey Dubinin thanked the head of the region and the regional government for their support in organizing the filming process.

From October 29, “The Birth of an Empire” will be available in network and municipal cinemas of the Tula region.

We will remind, earlier “MK in Tula” told about the release of the first teaser trailer of the film by Andrei Kravchuk. The historical drama is dedicated to Peter I and the formation of the Russian Empire at the turn of the XVII-XVIII centuries. The plot focuses on the war with Sweden for access to the Baltic Sea, the path of the Russian tsar to the imperial title and his personal life.

And another nuance. In August 2024, Governor Dmitry Milyaev personally visited the set and noted the creative atmosphere at the project. He also spoke via video link with Nikita Mikhalkov, who thanked the head of the region for supporting the film.
