The program “Light of Quietness” is a rare opportunity to hear chants that have been preserved for centuries in the Old Believer environment and are still heard in churches, the press service of the Novgorod Museum-Reserve told.
Listeners will get acquainted with different layers of ancient Russian singing culture: large and small banners, track and deplace chants will be heard - each with its own melody and character. These traditions are not just stored in manuscripts: Old Believers pass them orally, from generation to generation, preserving the true intonation and breath of ancient singing.
The evening will end with extra-theological compositions - spiritual poems and songs. They show that tradition is alive not only within the walls of the temple, but also beyond.
