Dymkovo toy, lace and media: the forum “Folk crafts of Russia” opened in Kirov

On October 8-9, 2026, the III All-Russian Media Forum “Folk Handicrafts of Russia” was held in Kirov.

It was timed to the 90th anniversary of the Kirov region, the organizers were traditionally the Government of the Kirov region branch of VGTRK "Vyatka". Journalists and authors of media projects from the regions of the Volga Federal District, as well as from the Komi, the Crimea, the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous District, the Kostroma, Magadan, Novosibirsk and Chelyabinsk regions came to the city.

The main issue of the forum is how to preserve the spiritual heritage of Russia through the traditions of folk crafts.

The program of the forum included master classes, discussion platforms, a creative competition and awarding the best authors. Television reports, radio programs, Internet projects, documentaries and other materials were sent to the competition. They are dedicated to both famous crafts, which have become symbols of the regions, and rare crafts from small settlements.

Kirov's choice is not accidental: Vyatka land is famous for Dymukovsky toy, lacemaking and artistic processing of the cap. In other regions of the Volga Federal District, traditional crafts are also being developed: in the Nizhny Novgorod region - khokhloma and city painting, in Tatarstan - leather mosaics, jewelry and gold embroidery, in Bashkortostan - felt. In Mari El retain embroidery, weaving, dowsing and work with birch bark, in Mordovia - Tavlin carving, national embroidery, pottery and beading. Udmurtia is known for embroidery and processing of wood, Chuvashia - patterned weaving and jewelry made of silver and beads. In the Perm region, stone carving is developed, in the Penza region - Abashev toy and glass, in the Orenburg - down knitting and clay toy. The Samara region is represented by house carving, pottery, blacksmithing and sewing, Saratov - harmonies, clay toys and sarpinka, Ulyanovsk - ceramics, dowsing, carving and wood painting.

On the second day of the forum, the Center for Tourism Development organized an information tour for media representatives. The guests visited the village of Velikoretsky. In 2025, a route was opened there, which connected the temple complex, Velikoretsky Castle and the embankment with the font and chapel. By the end of 2026, navigation and audio guides should appear on this path. The work is carried out within the framework of the national project “Tourism and Hospitality”. For journalists, the tour became an opportunity to see how the historical place receives modern landmarks for pilgrims and tourists.
