Minsk residents and guests will be able to visit the museum quarter in the center of Minsk from 2028. It will include four buildings of the National Art Museum, connected by glass galleries-transitions. This was told to journalists by NHM Director General Irina Matyas, BelTA reports.

“The renovation should be completed at the end of 2027, but it takes time to put everything in order and hang the paintings in place, so the museum quarter will be open to the general public in 2028,” said Irina Matyas.
Now the second launch complex is being implemented, the directorate is being reconstructed with an insert-transition, where additional halls will be located, and the insert itself will be connected with restoration workshops. It will create such a block that it will be possible to go inside the museum without going outside, she added.
According to the CEO, a contractor has already been identified, which will carry out the next stage - a large-scale repair of the main building. It is now closed, there is a movement of sculptures and paintings, which take their place in the storage or exposition.
Repin and Makovsky are now temporarily exhibited in the Vitebsk Regional Art Museum, some portraits are transported to the exhibition in Grodno. Ten works of Shishkin take part in the retrospective in Russia. All of them, of course, will return and will be demonstrated in their native renovated building, explained Irina Matyas.
She stressed that the museum quarter will be interesting and exciting. Additional exhibition areas, a lecture hall, new storage facilities will be added. This year, the fund increased by 5,600 works by Belarusian artists.
We have not 36 thousand, but 40 thousand exhibits, that is, our fund is increasing, and we need space to show interesting objects and masterpieces of Belarusian art. The museum space will also be updated taking into account all the requirements of different categories of visitors, including people with disabilities. I want to believe that this object will be a great place for pastime of all Minsk residents and guests of the capital, summed up Irina Matyas.
