The directorate of the museum "Government City of Kostroma" reports that on September 18, a presentation of a new local history publication - the book by Eduard Klein "Manturovskaya Land: from A to Z" was held within its walls.
Its author, better known to Kostromich as a military conductor of the orchestra of the Academy of RHBZ, is also a lover of local history.
Earlier, he had already published a book “At the Old-Vyatka tract”, which was highly appreciated by Kostroma local historians. And here is a new work, to which Edward Klein gave the form of a dictionary - for each letter of the alphabet he found a fact worthy of attention.
Especially lucky is the letter B - in Klein's work it means "hairy people" and contains a story about the fate of Fyodor Evtikheev,
who was born in the village of Korovino, now located in the Manturovsky district.
Due to a rare genetic abnormality, his entire body was covered with thick hair - and in the XIX century he became a "Russian curiosity", which was shown in Barnum's circus throughout Europe and America. At these performances, Fedor Evtikheev made a good fortune and in the process mastered English and German. Despite the fact that Evtikheev died in 1904, the glory survived Manturovka - his photo Soviet schoolchildren for a long time saw in textbooks on human physiology, and fellow countrymen assured that Evtikheev did not die, but went to the forest, where he became a hermit and lived until 1947.
The urban legend to this day feeds Manturov enthusiasts, who even came up with the tourist route “The Path of Hairy Kostromichs”.
In general, it turned out to be an interesting book.
