In the Musical Theatre there was a grand event – 40 years later in Petrozavodsk again performed Symphony No. 13 “Babi Yar” by Dmitry Shostakovich on the poems of Evgeny Yevtushenko. Why did the symphony deserve such attention to be on the stage of the theater? The fact that almost 200 artists took part in its performance, which simply could not accommodate the Philharmonic Hall: the Philharmonic Symphony Orchestra, the Male Philharmonic Choir, the Yaroslavl Municipal Chamber Men's Choir, the Vologda Philharmonic Men's Choir and the Male Composition of the Academic Choir of Students of the St. Petersburg State Conservatory.
Note that the bass even teared from the warm reception of the Karelian public.
Soloist Alexei Tikhomirov - the best bass of Russia, soloist of the Moscow musical theater "Helikon-Opera", nominee for the Grammy Award for the performance of this symphony with the Chicago Symphony Orchestra. The opening speech, which immersed the audience in the mood of the composer’s difficult life and the history of the birth of the symphony, was delivered by musicologist Yaroslav Timofeev (Moscow). Conducted all this vocal-instrumental giant Anatoly Rybalko.
Yes, Shostakovich is difficult. But it was worth it, believe me! How did you listen? Capital artists often sincerely admire our audience, because it is sensitive and well-mannered. Yesterday there were no random people among the listeners (casual with a 100% probability would applaud between parts of the symphony), and therefore between parts in the huge hall of the theater pulsating silence, terrible, adding horror to the design of the performed work.
