Metallica and "Apocalyptic" lit in Petrozavodsk
In Petrozavodsk held a cello show “Metallica & Apocalyptic”

In Petrozavodsk, a cello show “Metallica & Apocalyptic” was held. Tribute the legends of rock in the light of hundreds of candles. St. Petersburg band Violoncellica combined the academic school of playing cello with the energy of heavy rock and presented the audience with hits of world-famous bands.
The concert was held at the Petrozavodsk State Conservatory named after A. K. Glazunov. The ensemble consists of four cellos and percussion. Musicians are graduates of the St. Petersburg Rimsky-Korsakov Conservatory, laureates of international competitions and participants of prestigious festivals.
At first glance, the combination of cellos, drums and rock may seem unexpected. However, it is on this contrast that the concept of Violoncellica is built: classic learning, accurate ensemble play and a powerful, almost metallic sound.
The musicians call their landmarks Apocalyptica – a Finnish band that became one of the founders of cello metal. Like Russian artists, Finnish musicians received an academic education, but managed to prove that the conservatory does not mean conservative.
The host of the concert was the drummer of the group with the hair color of Malvina's unfulfilled dreams to hit punks and heavy metal. Before the start of the program, he himself joked about his bright hairstyle, explaining it as “corporate solidarity” with football “Zenit”.
In general, hooliganism, to which the chosen repertoire obliged, ended there. No Do Re Mi Do Re Do for you.
The program featured well-known songs by Metallica, Apocalyptica and The Rasmus. Among them are "One," "No Education." And many others.
Especially the audience was waiting for “One”: before the performance, the presenter recommended watching the eponymous clip to feel the drama of the work more deeply. "No Education" was served with a characteristic drive, and "Unforgiven" and "Nothing Else Matters" were the emotional climax of the evening. Under the well-known melodies, heads were shaken in beat, fingers were tapped on the knees.
Each member of the ensemble had the opportunity to show his skills: the artists took turns performing virtuoso solos, and the hall responded with applause. Such a creative card of each member of the team. One had a hat and the other had a chic hair, the third held the cello as an electric guitar, the fourth was so plucking through the strings with her fingers that they disappeared from view. Professionals, in a word.
The concert was full. The audience noted not only the charisma of the musicians, but also the quality of the sound.
“The concert is fire. Good drawings, Elena shared her impressions.
“It was a great and surprisingly decent sound,” Alexander said.
“Playing heartily. Two weeks ago we were at a similar event in the same conservatory, but the musicians were local, played Russian rock, and the sound was noticeably worse.
Chambers added and the hall of the Conservatory. Small, cozy and comfortable. But the audience made noise and lit themselves. Not all candles burn.
There was a nice bonus waiting for us. An unexpected meeting of classmates, colleagues and longtime friends. For both, teenage sons and students are already playing guitars — and may one day be on stage. The new format of the alumni meeting has been tested.
And the next meeting with music in the same hall and in an unusual format will take place on November 28. In the Petrozavodsk Conservatory named after A. K. Glazunov, an organ concert by candlelight will be held - "Rock Symphony in the Dark". Organ and cello.
After cello rock, Petrozavodsk seems ready for a new musical experiment: this time the organ and the cello will combine in an atmosphere of candles and rock symphony. We're coming. You should too.
