The world after trump: the answer is sought in ballet
In Paris, as part of the festival “What is the world after Trump?” showed the ballet “America”, revealing the current US President as an “anti-hero”

On stage are 10 journalists from Le Monde’s editorial office to “scroll through the decade of Trump’s rule as they flip through the daily newspaper, rubric by rubric.” Thomas Jolly, artistic director of the opening and closing ceremonies of the 2024 Summer Olympic and Paralympic Games in Paris, was hired to create the “real show”.
Among the artists performing at the evening is the troupe of the Opera Grand Avignon with the ballet “America”. The choreographer was Martin Harriag. According to him, the purpose of the production is to show the “deeply dirty side of the speeches” of the US president, revealing the motive of the “American dream” as a nightmare.
“Trump is both entertaining and chilling,” Harriag told Le Monde.
The group consists of 12 dancers. Their performance is accompanied by electronic music and fragments of speeches by Trump himself, which the choreographer has studied since 2016: “I almost mistook him for an artist who reads bad rap.”.
The premiere of the production took place at the end of 2024.
