Nicolas Cage confirms participation in the fifth season of True Detective
Actor Nicholas Cage at Comic Con in New York announced that he will star in the sequel to HBO’s True Detective. Also, the artist sharply criticized Amazon for the introduction of neural networks and refused to work with AI.

During his performance at the festival New York Comic Con 62-year-old Hollywood actor Nicholas Cage officially confirmed his participation in the filming of the fifth season of the popular TV series “True Detective”. Rolling Stone reports.
During the event, the artist shared plans to regularly combine work in full-length films and television series to ensure financial stability. This decision was prompted by the recent closure of the multi-part Spider-Noir project (an offshoot of the Spider-Man franchise), where he played the key role of a private detective, but the show was closed by studio bosses immediately after the first season.
You can’t make films one by one, without a break, but necessity is the mother of ingenuity. You can combine these things [movies and television]. What do I mean by necessity? You have to feed your family, but you don't have to be in movies all the time. So I think I’ll probably do another season of the series. I think this is going to be the season of True Detective. Is it okay that I was the first to announce it? said Cage.
Informational noise around the possible appointment of the actor to the main role began at the end of the summer of 2025. Production of the fifth season is led by Issa Lopez – showrunner of the previous fourth part of the franchise. The release of new series on the screens is scheduled for 2027.
It is worth recalling that in previous seasons of the cult detective series, key characters were played by such famous Hollywood stars as Matthew McConaughey, Colin Farrell, Woody Harrelson, as well as Mahershala Ali and Jodie Foster.
In addition, at Comic Con, Nicolas Cage harshly criticized Amazon for the active introduction of neural networks in production and said that he completely stops any cooperation with this company.
They invested $50 billion in OpenAI. I am an actor who does not accept AI. Draw your own conclusions. I'm not a member of their club. I did not sign a paper authorizing the use of AI with my participation in Spider-Noir, he said.
