The organizers of the Booker Prize presented a shortlist for 2026. Six works were selected by the jury from 163 entries. The list is published on the official website of the award.
“According to the jury, the selected works explore themes of identity, family relationships, loneliness, survival and human vulnerability,” the organizing committee of the organization noted.
The finals include Michael John Harrison’s The End of Everything, Marlon James’ The Vanishing, Luke Kennard’s The Black Bag, Rebecca Perry’s Can We Feed the King, Douglas Stewart’s John, and Elizabeth Strout’s The Things We Don’t Talk About.
This year’s jury was headed by the antiquologist and writer Mary Beard. The winner will be announced on November 9 at a ceremony at London's Old Billingsgate Hall. The winner will receive £50,000 and each finalist will receive £2,500.
The Booker Prize is one of the most prestigious literary awards in the world. It traditionally celebrates the best works of English-language fiction published in the UK and Ireland. This year, the shortlist includes books representing a wide range of genres: from dystopia and historical novel to modern realistic prose and satire.
The award was founded in 1969 and during its existence has helped to open the world to many outstanding authors. Last year, in 2025, the winner was Hungarian-British author David Soloy with the novel “Flesh”. In 2024, the award was given to British writer Samantha Harvey for her book In Orbit. Separately, there is the International Booker Prize, which in 2026 received Yang Shuang Tzu for the novel “Travel Notes about Taiwan”.
