Today, November 6, the Grodno Regional Drama Theatre hosted an exclusive press screening of the large-scale historical drama Denis Davydov. The story of Grodno" based on the play by Vladimir Solovyov, writes sb.by.

The performance of director Alina Sorokina promises to become one of the most technically complex and visually spectacular events of the year in the theatrical life of the region. The project is unique in its scope: the entire theater acting troupe and creative youth of the city are involved in the production. The performance was carried out with the support of the Ministry of Culture of the Russian Federation and ANO "Russian Seasons".
In the center of the plot of a large-scale production in the genre of hussar ballad is the legendary poet, hussar and partisan Denis Davydov, whose fate is intertwined with the history of the ancient city above the Neman. This story is about honor, duty, love, loyalty and courage, where the city of Grodno becomes a full-fledged actor. Bright musical performance immerses the viewer in the rich and contrasting atmosphere of a bygone era: lush, solemn balls, friendly hussar meetings, cozy evenings by the fire, soulful performance of songs and elegant dances will instantly transport the viewer to the XIX century. The creative energy of the entire theater troupe unites on the big stage of the theater to tell a powerful story about courage, honor and the great heritage of the era!

- This is the only way to create interesting three-dimensional images and stretch the idea and the main message through the entire performance. Vladimir Solovyov is a really good author, we chose him not by chance, since the production became possible thanks to a Russian grant. Our task was to take Russian classics, but we decided to take a little-known writer, although in the 1980s the musical opera Denis Davydov was staged at the Minsk Drama Theatre. To ensure historical accuracy and the era of 1812, Colonel Alexander Rodion, a consultant on military-historical issues, was involved in the work on the historical drama.

Alina Sorokina says that the play is interesting because, unfortunately, few of Grodno residents know that Denis Davydov played one of the main roles in the liberation of Grodno:
- Showing brilliant diplomatic talent, he, without a single shot, forced the superior corps of the enemy to leave the city. Grodno was saved from destruction and fires, hundreds of prisoners found freedom, and peace returned to the Prineman lands.

1812. Behind Moscow and Borodino, ahead - the liberation of Belarusian lands. Grodno became the strategic key to victory. In retreat, the French turned it into a powerful defensive knot, and the city over the Neman was threatened with complete destruction. But history chose a hero for his salvation - Denis Davydov. His role was performed by Alexander Kologriv, who considers this image very close to his spirit.
- This is a person who thinks first about his homeland, about loved ones, about friends, and last of all about himself. He devoted a lot of time to studying the biography of this bright hero of bygone time. I remember the fact that when he first started the guerrilla movement, he was caught and arrested by his own people. He has a very dynamic character, and without a complete immersion in this emotional and energetic character, nothing would have happened. He gives everything, leaving nothing for himself!

One of the most striking characters of the play was another historical character - Mikhail Kutuzov, played by Sergey Savko. To accurately convey the image, the young actor had to transform almost beyond recognition:
- Everything had to change: weight, age, voice, gait and so on. At first I was surprised by the choice of director, but later I was very pleased to feel like a great commander and wise statesman. Gathered all available information about him and bit by bit tried to find what I can convey from the stage: how he moved, communicated, treated other characters of the drama. I am sure that the role of Mikhail Illarionovich is one of the most difficult and responsible.
