Journalist and local historian Tatiana Konopatskaya continues to investigate the fate of the inhabitants of Polesie. The next book of the author of the series “Luninets Memory” tells about those who lived and worked in the village of Vulka-1, writes sb.by.

At the beginning of the twentieth century, this place was known far beyond the Luninetchin. The fact is that in a small church on the outskirts of the village, there was a miraculous image of the Virgin, to worship which came many people. Alas, in Soviet times the temple was destroyed, and the icon disappeared without a trace. But her memory remains. That is why the cover of the publication is decorated with the coat of arms of the village with the image of the very shrine.
Do many rural settlements in Belarus have their own heraldic symbol? And Vulki-1 has one. And, I suppose, well deserved.
“445 years ago, information appeared about the first settlement in these places, which eventually became Volka, and today is known as Vulka-1,” Tatiana Konopatskaya emphasized at the presentation of the book, which was held at the local Center for Culture and Folk Art.

The pages of the publication reflect the history of 25 “Voljana” families. The First World War and the Great Patriotic War, political upheavals and changes in the peasant way of life in the first half of the twentieth century, the restoration of Belarusian lands in the postwar period - all this is shown through the fates of real people who once lived and left their mark in Vulka-1.
It is noteworthy that the presentation of the book about the agro-town attracted the attention of not only local residents. The event aroused interest among teachers, heads of agricultural enterprises, representatives of the local vertical of power, clergy. The meeting became an occasion for a lively conversation about the future of Vulki-1. For example, from the lips of the participants, a proposal was made to build a chapel on the site where the Orthodox Church was once located. Especially not so long ago was found the original banner from the temple.

- In the memorial complex “Khatyn” our Vulka-1 is also mentioned, Tatiana Konopatskaya reminded. The book reflects the pages of tragedies that overtook the village more than once during the period of the German fascist occupation. I very much hope that a memorial will be erected at the site of the massacre of hostages in 1942 - 30 men and two women.
The participants of the presentation agreed that memory should be not only in the family, but also in society. Therefore, it is hoped that on the anniversary of the tragedy, in 2027, it will be carried out.
