For the participants of the project “Tales of the Northern Territory” master classes on acting skills were held. They were conducted by the actor of the Arkhangelsk Drama Theater named after M.V. Lomonosov Nikolai Varentsov.
Nikolai graduated from the Boris Shchukin Theatre Institute at the Evgeny Vakhtangov State Academic Theatre in 2022, has been serving in the drama theater for four years. He is also engaged in pantomime and clowning as part of the Tabure Theater. Last year, together with his sister, he staged a New Year’s play “Lights” in the genre of theatrical clowning, and now he is working on the continuation of this story.
Dramatic theater and pantomime are kind of the same sphere, but in fact they are very different universes, and I am very glad that they touch in me. And speech is a very important instrument of the actor, said Nikolai Varentsov.
The master classes were attended by the actors of the play "Tales of the Northern Territory", as well as friends of the project - students of the Solombal Special Correctional General Education Boarding School. Participants immersed themselves in theatricalization and staging, tried on various roles, interacted, playing with their voice, learned to work with their faces, practiced the Mirror exercise and turned into a magical forest. They also played the tongue-in-cheek “Rode the Greek across the river...” The surprise was the “master class in the master class”: everyone under the guidance of Nikolai was able to make a “dog” from a ball.
Kirill Polozov, who plays Skipper Gorazd in the play, shared his impressions:
- It's super, very useful for the role. I enjoyed participating in the sketch “Magic Forest”, as well as the speech exercises “Yachal Greek...” and, of course, a master class on the manufacture of “dogs”.
Solombal Special Correctional General Education Boarding School is a partner of the inclusive project “Tales of the Northern Territory”. School teacher Svetlana Valeryevna brought the children to class.
- In my opinion, the children were interesting and informative. Our pupils need a special approach, and we definitely use part of this master class in our work, we hope to continue our cooperation, she said.
All places for the Pomor fantasy musical Tales of the Northern Territory, which will premiere at the Solombala Art cultural center on December 11 at 18:30, are already occupied. Bookings are open for repeat screenings on January 28 at 13:00 and February 21 at 12:00. Entrance is free, registration on the site is required.
The event on December 11 will be attended by Zlata Varlamov – a native of Welsk, a girl with a disability, a blogger and a participant in creative projects. Zlata became the prototype of the main character of the drama series “Get on your feet” and took part in the filming.
The project “Tales of the Northern Territory” of the cultural center “Solombala-Art” and TOS “Kemsky” became the winner of the sixth grant competition of the Governor of the Arkhangelsk region in May 2026. It is implemented within the framework of the inclusive creative laboratory “Here and Now”.
