In the Chuvash State Opera and Ballet Theater opened XXXVI International Opera Festival named after Maxim Mikhailov. The event has been held since 1991 in honor of the legendary opera singer, a native of Chuvashia.
The festival opened with the premiere of Peter Tchaikovsky’s opera Eugene Onegin in a new production by director Maria Fomicheva. In this version, the classic plot is adapted to the modern theatrical language: the image of Tatiana is divided into an adult heroine and her childhood half, which creates the effect of retrospective and dialogue with the past.
The festival program includes works of the world repertoire, national operas and digital projects with the participation of the soloists of the theater and invited artists. Special screenings are provided for schoolchildren and students, tickets are available for purchase under the Pushkin Card as part of the Family national project.
The main event of the program was a gala concert with the participation of the National Philharmonic Orchestra of Russia under the direction of Vladimir Spivakov and People's Artist of Russia Hibla Gerzmava.
“I sincerely wish the participants creative inspiration and well-deserved recognition of the public, and our dear guests – vivid emotions, joy of familiarization with authentic masterpieces and the warmest impressions of staying on the hospitable Chuvash land,” said the Head of Chuvashia Oleg Nikolaev.
The festival will run until November 22.
