In Elista hosted the premiere of “Princess Turandot” in the style of comedy del arte

In Elista, the premiere of the play “Princess Turandot” took place. The production was timed to the anniversary of the Baatr Basangov National Drama Theatre. Directed by Pavel Pronin.

The classic story of a cruel princess, making deadly riddles, and the exile Calafa, who conquered her heart, appeared before the public in an unusual reading. The action was transferred to the atmosphere of the comedy del arte, but with a pronounced national flavor.

The characters of Pantalone, Tartaglia, Brigella and Truffaldino spoke Kalmyk and dressed in national costumes. The performance involves the viewer in what is happening. Artists joke and communicate with the audience, blurring the line between the stage and the audience.

The storyline remained classic. A Chinese emperor is trying to marry a recalcitrant daughter who demands that the suitors solve three mysteries under the threat of death. In the production involved almost the entire troupe of the theater.

The premiere of “Princess Turandot” became part of the mini-festival “Prime Minister’s Parade”, dedicated to the anniversary celebrations. These days, the theater presents several new works at once, including performances “Retro”, “Mother’s Hymn” and “My Arslan” based on the play by Lev Gumilev. The main celebrations in honor of the 90th anniversary of the Basangov National Drama Theatre will be held on November 8.
