In Makhachkala will open an exhibition of Mikhail Verkholantsev’s graphics “Polyphony of the cutter”

October 15 at 16:00 in the Dagestan Museum of Fine Arts named after P. S. Gamzatova will open an exhibition of Honored Artist of the Russian Federation, Academician of the Russian Academy of Arts Mikhail Verkholantsev “Polyphony of the Cutter”.
The exhibition will include more than 70 works created from 1992 to 2026 in the techniques of end woodcut and longitudinal woodcuts. Among them are the series “Fantastic dances” on the themes of ballets by Jean-Philippe Rameau, the cycle “Phoeb and Pan” according to Bach’s cantata, works on the epic “Kalevala”, illustrations for Tolstoy’s “Kreutzer Sonata” and mythological plots: “History of Helena”, “Life of Job”, “Dedalus and Icarus”, “Orpheu and Eurydice”.
A special place will be occupied by the sheets of the artist’s book “Virtues and Vices”, created in 2011-2013 – a reflection on the passions, choice and opposition of light and darkness.
Entrance to the vernissage is free. On October 16, at 16:00, there will be a master class and a lecture by Verkholantsev on woodcutting with an author’s tour. Tickets are available on the museum’s website, including via the Pushkin Card.
