In Sochi meet Sergey Kapustnik: folk traditions and signs on October 8
Sergey Kapustnik celebrated on October 8 on the national calendar

Sergey Kapustnik is celebrated on October 8 according to the national calendar. In the old days on this day, families together harvested cabbage for the winter, shaved it, laid it in tubs, added carrots, apples and berries.
The hostess baked cakes and pies with cabbage filling, turning the hassle into warm family gatherings. People associated this day with the first frosts and closely watched the weather.
It was believed that clear weather promises another three weeks of warmth, and the snow foreshadows the imminent onset of winter. The north wind was perceived as a sign of cold winter, the south - warm, the west - snow.
Sergius of Radonezh in folk traditions was revered as the patron of poultry, so the day was sometimes called the Chicken Coop.
