Theater named after Yakub Kolas opened the 101st season with a sarcastic comedy “Buffet after the premiere”

The National Academic Drama Theatre named after Yakub Kolas presented the first premiere of the 101st season – the sarcastic comedy “Buffet after the premiere” based on the play by Russian playwright Valentin Krasnogorov staged by the famous Belarusian director Sergey Kulikovsky. The director himself carried out a brilliant translation into Belarusian. It's reported by sb.by.

- I largely agree with the director Roman Viktyuk, who highly appreciated this work and called the comedy of Valentin Krasnogorov “the best contemporary play”. The author captures the spirit of the times, with humor and sadness analyzes the mores of modern society, our selfishness and consumer attitude to each other. The theatre behind the scenes in our history is a metaphor for the modern world. And the starting point of the play is Shakespeare’s tragedy Othello. Shakespeare understood human passions and psychology like no other.

The genre of “black comedy” was changed to “sarcastic comedy”. There is a lot of sarcasm in the play. When the performer of the role of Othello actor Yuri Tsvirko closer to the final performs the hit Philip Kirkorov “Color of Mood – Blue” it causes an explosion of laughter. In general, Kulikovskiy’s new work is laughed sincerely, often on business.

- This comedy should not be viewed as a realistic “play about the theater” or “play about actors.” This is a play about our lives, a “black” comedy about our weaknesses and vices with the peculiar hyperbolicity and sharpness of this genre. The theater is chosen as a place of action only because it allows you to strengthen the game and comedy element.

- All our heroes fight for a place in the sun, even in strange ways. Of course, this struggle is rooted in human nature itself, but I would like the audience to leave the hall after the performance to be convinced that these predatory impulses cannot be indulged. We should not act like our heroes. You can not reduce your whole life only to career intrigues and mercantile interests. Life is a gift, it is much broader and richer than any, even the most successful career.

The set design and costumes for the new performance were created by the talented main artist of the theater Svetlana Makarenko. This is not the first joint work of the artist and director, they feel and understand each other well from half a word. Makarenko laconic detail is able to convey both the spirit of the work and the nuance in the character. Her artistic vision is voluminous and always paradoxical.

Plastic and choreography in the premiere performance was staged by the leading stage master Ulyana Atyasova. Bright roles in the play managed to create the winner of the medal of Francis Skaryna Yuri Tsvirko, actors Evgeny Beresnev, Vladislav Yadroitsev, Dmitry Filimonenkov, Elena Sherepchenko and Victoria Shamardina. The acting ensemble enjoys the work and this is transferred to the hall. The Vitebsk audience warmly received the bright comedy performance “Furchet after the premiere” and was grateful to the author group for the opportunity to look into the exciting world of theatrical behind the scenes.
