Residents of Sochi on October 29 on the day of Longin Vratnik are advised not to quarrel and not to lend money

On Thursday, October 29, residents of Sochi can turn to the traditions of the national calendar, in which this date is known as Longin Sotnik, or Longin Vratnik. The day is associated with several ancient prohibitions concerning money, family relations and household chores.

The Orthodox Church on October 29 honors the memory of the martyr Longin Sotnik. According to Christian tradition, he was a Roman warrior present at the crucifixion of Jesus Christ. In folk tradition, the saint was considered the protector of the house and the patron of people suffering from eye diseases.

One of the main prohibitions of the day was considered quarrels with relatives and friends. According to legend, the conflict that arose on October 29, could last for a long time and lead to the deterioration of family relations.

Also, the ancestors tried not to lend money and products. It was believed that with them from home can leave wealth and well-being.

Particular attention was paid to the entrance doors and windows. People believed that left open doors can bring trouble to the home. Hence came one of the names of the holiday - Longin Vratnik.

It was not recommended to start big business, make expensive purchases and make hasty financial decisions. According to ancient ideas, such actions could turn into losses.

In addition, there was a belief that forbade to be sad, complain about life and indulge in despondency. People believed that a bad mood on this day can linger for a long time.

According to folk tradition, the day was considered suitable for restoring order in the house, communicating with loved ones and helping those in need. In some regions, it was customary to ventilate warm clothes and prepare clothes for the onset of winter.

A special place was occupied by observations of nature. Frost on trees was considered a harbinger of warming, rare clouds - clear and cold weather, and changeable wind was associated with frequent winter thaws.

For residents of Sochi, where autumn usually remains mild, signs associated with rain and wind are of particular interest. According to popular observations, the rainy weather on October 29 foreshadowed the approach of the cold and wet period.

At the same time, the enumerated prohibitions and omens refer to folk beliefs, and not to mandatory church prescriptions. There is no scientific confirmation of the connection of everyday actions with future events.
