In the Brest region this year put into operation 39 dispensaries for calves

39 calf dispensaries for nine months and about 140 for three years – a benchmark of 2.6 million tons of milk

From the construction and reconstruction of these facilities largely depends on the safety of young animals, which means the health and productivity of adult cattle. This is always taken into account in agricultural organizations of the Brest region, where during the construction of dispensaries, they try to withstand the technological requirements that are constantly improving, and at the same time rationally use money. This approach was guided by JSC "Young Guard" Brest district. This week, the farm commissioned a new dispensary designed for 360 calves. It is located on the territory of the Zbirogi dairy complex, where in recent years a large-scale modernization of livestock facilities as a whole has been carried out.

First Deputy Chairman of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Dmitry Gorodetsky, who took part in the grand opening of the facility, noted that the conditions created here are one of the main elements in the process of raising cattle, as well as in the production of milk and meat:

- In such dispensaries, a reserve is formed within three months to ensure high productivity of animals. 900 – 1000 grams of average daily gain is the basis for the fact that in the future we will raise a high-productive cow or get a bull that will give good meat. This requires conditions. Thanks to the instructions of the Head of State, adopted resolutions of the Council of Ministers, 39 calf dispensaries have been built in Brest region this year. About 40 million rubles were spent on this. The construction of dispensaries in the region has paid great attention before. Over the past three years, about 140 such facilities have been commissioned.

- Today we have 531 dispensaries, almost 100 thousand staging places for calves, said Dmitry Gorodetsky. Our task is to continue working. This is a never-ending process as technological approaches are constantly changing. Now elements of digitalization are being actively introduced, which greatly facilitates the work of calves, veterinarians, zootechnics, and other specialists.

The implementation of this project in JSC “Young Guard” began in April 2026. Director of the agricultural enterprise Oleg Begal said that the allocated funds in the amount of 1.6 million rubles mastered in five months. For the livestock sector of the economy with the commissioning of a large dispensary, new prospects are opening up. The health and productivity of future cows depends on the conditions of keeping young animals. In the “Young Guard” at the end of this year, it should come close to 10 thousand kilograms. This is a high level, which is difficult to add without flawless operation of the entire technological chain on closed-loop complexes.

During the construction of a dairy kitchen, modern approaches and means of small mechanization were used in the dispensary: two milk taxis, automatic washing of buckets, mobile dryers, colostrum defroster and other equipment.

In Brest region, the modernization of livestock breeding gives logical results. In the coming days, the region will set a new record in milk production, which from the beginning of the year, that is, in nine months with little, will reach 2 million tons. Chairman of the Committee on Agriculture and Food of the Brest Regional Executive Committee Anatoly Shchuplenkov recalled that recently such a result was a benchmark for a whole calendar year: - For the first time the threshold of 2 million tons Brest region overcame in 2023. Then the gross milk production exceeded 2 million 163 thousand tons. In 2026, a comparable volume will be achieved within 10 months. This is important for ensuring quality dairy products in the domestic market and increasing export potential.

By the end of 2026, milk production in Brest region should amount to about 2.6 million tons. The average daily productivity of dairy herds in the farms of the region is now at the level of 23.6 kilograms, gross production is more than 7 thousand tons. The region is steadily adding to the level of 2025.
