It turned out that the Penza region is among the subjects of the country with the lowest costs for such a set of food.
they are among the leaders in food availability.
According to TASS, citing data from the Rusprodsoyuz association, in September 2026 the cost of the minimum food basket in the Penza region amounted to 6,540.6 rubles per person per month. This is the second lowest indicator among Russian regions.
Cheaper minimum set of products cost only residents of neighboring Mordovia – 6 334.9 rubles.

Thus, in the Penza region, the minimum set of food was about 1.3 thousand rubles, or 16.6%, cheaper than the average Russian level.
For comparison, in Tatarstan, the cost of the food basket reached 6,934.8 rubles, in the Omsk region - 6,783.9 rubles, and in the Moscow region - 8,274.2 rubles.
In Moscow, the minimum set of products was estimated at 9,253.2 rubles, and in St. Petersburg – at 9,151.3 rubles.
The highest cost of a food basket is recorded in Chukotka, where a basic set of food requires 21,497.8 rubles per month. In the Kamchatka Territory, this figure was 13,760.4 rubles.
Usually, the minimum food basket includes basic foods: bread, cereals, pasta, potatoes, vegetables, fruits, meat, fish, dairy products, eggs, sugar and vegetable oil.
For Penza residents, the results of the study mean that basic products in the region are relatively cheaper than in most other regions of Russia. This can reduce the burden on the family budget and leave more money for other daily needs. However, the real availability of food depends not only on prices, but also on the income of a particular family.
