High yield and savings on grain drying: a new Belarusian corn hybrid entered the state register

The State Register of Varieties of the Republic of Belarus in 2026 included a new hybrid of corn “vivalen 1322” of the selection of the Polesie Institute of Crop Production. It has a high yield and the ability to quickly give off moisture, which reduces the cost of drying grain. This sb.by reported in the press service of the Ministry of agriculture.

It is specified that the hybrid is recommended for growing on grain and silage.

“The marking of the “FAO 200” indicates a medium-early maturity period,” the department said. This is an optimal balance: the hybrid manages to fully form the harvest before the onset of autumn cold weather, but the volume of production is not inferior to later varieties. The status of “simple interlinear” ensures the uniformity of crops: all plants in the field will be of the same height and ripen simultaneously, which ensures maximum efficiency of harvesting equipment.

The main value of any hybrid is yield. The Ministry of Agriculture gave figures: the new variety it averages 113 centners per hectare of grain, and in favorable conditions reaches 167 centners per hectare. For comparison: many standard hybrids of this class give 80-90 centners per hectare, that is, the domestic development significantly exceeds them in productivity.

At the same time, high grain productivity does not come at the expense of feed qualities. The collection of starch per hectare reaches 64.4 centners. Starch is the main energy “battery” for dairy cattle, so the use of such a silo has a positive effect on milk yields.

The key practical advantage of the new hybrid is the ability to quickly give off moisture with grain before harvesting. Grain dries in the field naturally, which allows farms to significantly reduce the cost of expensive artificial drying on elevators and start cleaning a week earlier, minimizing the risks due to autumn rains.

These advantages are supported by a high sustainability of culture. The hybrid intensively increases the green mass in the spring, outpacing the growth of weeds, and successfully resists both weather anomalies (drought, temperature changes) and common diseases.
