Influenza is a serious disease comparable in risks to coronavirus infection. It affects the lungs more seriously, so there is a category of patients for whom vaccination is especially necessary: with influenza, they will have a much heavier course. This was during the briefing “Health of the Nation: Prevention of ARI – from recommendations to habit”, said Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice with a course of geriatrics and palliative medicine BSMU, candidate of medical sciences Natalia Klimovich, reports sb.by.

She added:
- We are talking about vulnerable groups. These are children from 6 months to 3 years old, adults with chronic diseases, people over 65 years old, pregnant women, as well as medical and pharmaceutical workers, employees and guests of institutions with round-the-clock stay, employees of public administration bodies. The danger is that the consequences of influenza may not appear immediately, be delayed and reach life-threatening complications. The influenza virus is reported year-round, including individual summer episodes. This is due to the high mobility of people: they actively travel, come from other countries, come into contact with a wide range of infections and return home with a new viral flora. In such circumstances, the risk of spread increases.

Remember to take care of your own health. If a person gets sick, they should stay at home and not put others at risk - neither at work nor on public transport. For those who seek to minimize the likelihood of the disease, various preventive measures are available, including vaccination. The country uses high-quality vaccines that provide a high probability of either not getting sick at all, or transferring the infection in a mild form. Hygiene and prevention remain key prevention measures for ARI – doctor
