Wearing a mask reduces the risk of infection during the growth of SARS and influenza – doctor

The mask reduces the viral load both for a healthy person in contact with the patient and for the patient, limiting the ability to transmit the infection to others. This was during the briefing “Health of the Nation: Prevention of ARI – from recommendations to habit”, said Associate Professor of the Department of General Medical Practice with a course of geriatrics and palliative medicine BSMU, candidate of medical sciences Natalia Klimovich, reports sb.by.

She noted:

The mask does not provide full protection, but it reduces the intensity and duration of contact with the virus. When observing the distance, the risk of infection is further reduced.

Mask regime is especially important where there is a high probability of meeting people with infectious diseases, we are talking primarily about medical institutions. During periods of increasing incidence, when, for example, an increase in infections by 30% is recorded, masks are recommended in crowded places. This applies to healthy people and those who feel the first signs of infection.

When symptoms appear, Natalia Klimovich advises to stay at home or seek medical care, so as not to spread the disease and receive timely treatment. Influenza is dangerous with delayed complications and severely affects the lungs - doctor Photo on the announcement: archive "SB"
